I see that the Ranger Quadra kit I posted about a few posts back is being released in the US now.
Scott Kelby has a video and some details about it on the Photoshop Insider Blog. Joe McNally was shooting with it last week, a cool diver shot in the water. Scott Kelby has a setup shot on his blog too.
Weddings shooters shot especially take note. This setup gives you the power to overcome the sun at midday.. Way more power and control than you’d get with a speedlight, and remotely controlable to boot. You can even mix it with TTL flashes.
I’ve been away in Scotland/England and Wales, but haven’t really had time to post much.
Anyhow, here’s a link for some cool Old Film textures I got a while back, but mislaid. Found them again after much searching
Bittbox Old Film
Following on from a most excellent blog post by Melissa Rodwell on Promoting your Photography Business, I’ve uploaded a headshot/beauty postcard to be done with Sim2000 Imaging. I do intend doing a specifically music related one also, and an even simpler one with less images specifically for headshots. This version is more mini portfolio than anything else.
Anyhow here’s the one thats just gone to print. The top part is the glossy side, while the back is matt. This is proofed from within the Sim software, hence the proof watermarks!
While I will use these for promo, it’s also a test of the service with Sim2000. They have a cool selection of marketing materials and do low print runs if needed. Considering the small print run (from 50+ on cards), they’re reasonable value. I’m keen to get the CD holders, which are next on the list.
Update: The cards are actually glossy on both sides and look great. Go Sim!
There’s a new video up on Squeeze The Lime, this time it’s Pieter’s turn to shoot. There’s lots of nice tips and the final images look great in the Flickr slideshow.
Mononeil aka Neil McShane has a great article called Shoot Better Landscapes Part 1 over on his Mononeil blog. For those unware, Neil is probably the best B&W landscape photographer in Ireland, and the article is full of great tips for better landscapes in general.
Former Confessions of a Photographer video blogger Bert Stephani has a new project. Along with videographer Pieter Van Impe they’ve launched a photo learning website called Squeeze The Lime. LIME stands for Learn, Inspire, Motivate and Experience. Posting wise it’s a mix of audio, text and video, with a lot of good advice thrown in for good measure.
Jameson Abart blogged a while ago about California Sunbounce products, noting of course that while they are the bees knees, they’re really pricey. I agree. Despite this I’d still love one of the micro mini’s with flash bracket.
James has a alternative, and I’ve been thinking along those lines also: DIY. He made 2 things, a large scrim and a gold reflector. I’m seriously thinking of following suit and making a micro mini in silver!
A post over on the Flickr Adobe Lightroom blog lead to me taking the FM 100 Hue Test. Being on the X-rite website, you know that it’s an accurate test. Zero is the perfect score. I got a 4, so I guess I’m happy. My weakness was in the cyan/blue section. It’s a bit of fun, even if it does serve to show that maybe you can’t see as well as you might imagine!
