More timelapses

By Seanmcfoto. Posted in timelapse | No Comments »

I had to go out and get a specific type of shot for an article I’m writing, so while I was out I made a very quick timelapse video (about 10 minutes at 2 sec intervals) with a 15mm fisheye lens.

Click through to Facebook for a look at more of my recent timelapse material, which hopefully will get me geared for a longer project.

G10 Timelapse

By Seanmcfoto. Posted in timelapse | No Comments »

I’m slightly disappointed that Canon announced the G11 today. I’m literally only after getting a G10. Sigh.
Anyhow, I’ve used a modified TC80N3 intervalometer to create the following timelapse using the G10.

I’m pretty happy with the rather boring test run, as it serves the purpose of letting me get timelapses without carting around a lot of kit. It might also sit nicely on my Meade Telescope mount!

Astro fun

By Seanmcfoto. Posted in Actions, Photo, timelapse | No Comments »

I was going to go out into the depths of the countryside last night and shoot a star movement timelapse. Instead I set the camera up down the back of the apartment complex green (in the wild grass). I figured I would do a test run first.
Here’s the result of shooting 13″ exposures at ISO800 (f5.6) on my 40D. I could’ve used the 5D with the 24 @ f2.8 with a lower ISO, but I was loathe to leave it out there just in case.

The movie is up on Vimeo.

With help from John Beardsworth on Twitter, I was able to muck around and make the process of stacking these images to create a timelapse into an action.
The process is straightforward: First run File>Automate>Load files into Stack. Select the files. Next my action selects the layers, converts to a Smart Object, then chooses Layers>Smart Objects>Stack Mode>Maximum, resulting in a star trail image.

Walking the waterways.

By Seanmcfoto. Posted in News, timelapse | No Comments »

On the way home from the failed kayak session, I bumped into Delo Collier. Delo looks after Galway Civic Trust and was using a shot of mine, of a local heron, in the new ‘Galway City Waterways Walks’. I’ve perused it and it’s quite interesting. It might make a photo project of its own.

Speaking of water I also went down to Ballyloughane and ran a short timelapse this evening.

Rosshill Timelapse

By Seanmcfoto. Posted in timelapse | No Comments »

I dragged Cyn and Matthew down to Rosshill at sunset to shoot some timelapse. Unfortunately for me, I didn’t notice a large hair bang smack in the middle of the sensor. It’s a pain because as good as Lightroom is with batch spotting, it doesn’t work when batched across moving cloud images. I ended up cropping in..

Scotland

By Seanmcfoto. Posted in Landscape, timelapse | 5 Comments »

It’s been hard to get back to blogging after my trip to Scotland. It’s just been mad here, especially as I go through all the images, making selects, keywording. It also leads to me to considering my options on stock sales.

The photo above is from Sanna Bay. I found the layout of the beaches too busy to find a composition in, despite seeing Joe Cornish images from there. I opted for details instead. This was shot with both a 4 stop ND filter and a 3 Stop ND Grad, both by Hitech (Formatt is the parent company for these)

I also shot a few timelapse sets on the trip, here’s one from Glen Etive.

Connemara Timelapse

By Seanmcfoto. Posted in timelapse | No Comments »

I’ve posted my first mixed timelapse on Vimeo. In 3 different locations on Sunday, I shot for approximately 30 mins at 1 frame every 5 seconds. At the Vimeo HD rate of 34 fps, that gives about 15 seconds of video. So in order: Derryclare Lough and Pine Island, the road to Lutty. with the horseshoe of the 12 Bens in the background and finally Renvyle beach looking over at a snowcapped Mweelrea. Tawnyard

Connemara_231108_081

In what was originally a recce, Paul Feeney and I went up into deepest Mayo for a location Paul had seen once in the fading light of day. Much better in daylight, I must say! Click the image for a larger version on Flicker.
As I was waiting on the light firing off test shots, my battery died. “No problem” I thought, “I have a spare”. I’d taken a battery off the charger on the way out, so I put it in the camera. I figures that seeing as the winds was strong and the clouds really moving, this would be a great chance for a nice timelapse. So I set the camera up and pulled out my Canon TC80N intervalometer and set it to 5 sec intervals. 80 shots (small JPEG, I might add) later, the fresh battery is completely dead. A full fresh battery with no flash can to 1000 shots, so I was annoyed, but there was nothing I could do.
Anyhow at 24fps, the final 75 shots take a whopping 3 seconds to view, rather that the 30 mins compressed to 15 secs I had intended. Clicking through to Vimeo will allow you to view a HD version.

Getting to work

By Seanmcfoto. Posted in Shoot, timelapse | 1 Comment »

Prior to tonights work (Shooting Glor Tire promo/productions stills for Gael Media) I spent a bit of time on the beach shooting a sunset timelapse. I’m not happy with the results of that particulary as I was trying a few different variations on settings. Of course I’ve gleaned even from it to get it right next time, which will be tomorrow if the weather holds! Anyway on the way back I pulled out my Manfrotto ‘Magic arm, clamped it to my car door frame and placed the camera on the roof of the car. Again experimentally I tried a shot every 2 secs, which is just a little too fast. I know for next time though! Enjoy my trip to the beach followed by a bit of searching for a parking space.
