Prior to tonights work (Shooting Glor Tire promo/productions stills for Gael Media) I spent a bit of time on the beach shooting a sunset timelapse. I’m not happy with the results of that particulary as I was trying a few different variations on settings. Of course I’ve gleaned even from it to get it right next time, which will be tomorrow if the weather holds! Anyway on the way back I pulled out my Manfrotto ‘Magic arm, clamped it to my car door frame and placed the camera on the roof of the car. Again experimentally I tried a shot every 2 secs, which is just a little too fast. I know for next time though! Enjoy my trip to the beach followed by a bit of searching for a parking space. It’s been an eventful week, with VAT returns, a new tech edit project and a very sick Macbook Pro. Still there was a few goods things. My new lights arrived Monday so I can add 2 Elinchrom BX400′s, 2 reflectors with grids and a Maxisoft 70cm beauty dish to my lighting collection. Foto-Arte.co.uk finally came through after 8 weeks as my 2 striplights landed in also.
I used the striplights for a client on Wed night in a local gym. I’m quite impressed with them, considering they came in around €90 inc carriage each.
I’m now on the lookout for an Elinchrom speedring for my octabox. I’m dying to try it using the silver deflector that came with the beauty dish with no diffusion for a big silver dish look. Although I wasn’t considering ordering, between the dish and the BX set, I have the silver, gold and translucent deflectors. Handy!
Here’s my fav shot from the Gym, complete with texture layer.
Anyone based around Galway should note that the 2nd Galway Strobist meet is Sunday 28th Sept at 1pm. Location is the underground carpark at Bodkins Bar on the Dublin Road.
My Macbook Pro is very sick. The screen is constantly redrawing in blocks. While pretty much everything is backed up, I’m still taking no chances with it. Currently I’ve got it running in Target Disk mode and am copying everything off it. There’s about 15 mins left after over 2 hours of copying..
A post over on the Flickr Adobe Lightroom blog lead to me taking the FM 100 Hue Test. Being on the X-rite website, you know that it’s an accurate test. Zero is the perfect score. I got a 4, so I guess I’m happy. My weakness was in the cyan/blue section. It’s a bit of fun, even if it does serve to show that maybe you can’t see as well as you might imagine!
Since the release of LRB Portfolio, you might think I had a break after the development time? Well no actually. It was straight into 1.01 bug fixing and feature requests. The main bug was the menu going over too far in IE, but that’s now fixed. There was also some instant update issues with some of the menu items. I replaced the variable to solve that. Images Per Gallery had a px after it. Now removed.
As to features, I’ve a basic Flash music player added. I also made a little music loop in Reason to demo it. Because it’s Flash, it won’t preview on PC in Lua galleries. That’s an IE limitation due to the way it handles plugins like flash. It does show with Preview in Browser though.
Other feature requests done are: Option to remove the Home page link. Done, but you have to start on the home page.
Page Title: you can have a different title on the title bar, rather than Site title, which is used on the main page.
Logo Top Gap: Those worried that the gallery was too far down now have the option of setting this height from 0-200px (default is still 100px).
.
In Site Info I’ve added headers to each section for clarity.
My latest is in the hands of testers and the file will be updated when all the new bugs introduced with the features are sorted out. Previous purchasers will be able to redownload. Those that used up the quota can email in for a refill.
I don’t have a time on this, because I don’t know what they might find!
Photowise, I’ve shot Sub Rosa for Red Track Music and some documentary and promo shots for The Weightless Astronauts. That involved one of guitar players standing on my sync cable and breaking something. I’m just not sure what.. I’ll post copies when approval is had.
