Shellac

By Seanmcfoto. Posted in Live | No Comments »

Legendary producer Steve Albini is 1/3 of Shellac. They played a great show tonight in the Roisin Dubh. Musically speaking arrangements are quite loose, not following any standard song format. I didn’t find this upsetting, although one respected musician friend did highlight it as a reason they didn’t like the gig…

Performing Arts School

By Seanmcfoto. Posted in Shoot | No Comments »

Yesterday I was shooting stuff for the Performing Arts School Galway, for a programme for their upcoming show. Due to the youth of the people involved I won’t be posting any shots though.
I was met by Conor and Dave, who graciously helped carry my gear in, in some of the worst rain we’ve had in ages. After looking for locations, we eventually shoot 90% of the stuff in the canteen. Backgrounds weren’t optimal, but I made the most of it. I may try allowing light fallup to make backgrounds go black next time.
For the headshots, I just used my Lastolite collapsible Black/White background. All was reasonably quick and it went well. I made use of a very old Lightroom galllery from the theturninggate.net to post the images for client selection. The picks came in today and I made short work of the B&W conversion and minor retouching in Lightroom.

Ballyloughane Sunset

During the week, I got my first layouts of Photoshop Lightroom Made Easy to edit. It’s looking great. I’ve a bit of knocking about to do between myself and my editor, but we’re in great shape from what I’ve seen so far. Of course, looking back over stuff is giving me a chance to peruse older images, so here’s one from last December.

DIY Sunbounce

By Seanmcfoto. Posted in Resources | 1 Comment »

Jameson Abart blogged a while ago about California Sunbounce products, noting of course that while they are the bees knees, they’re really pricey. I agree. Despite this I’d still love one of the micro mini’s with flash bracket.
James has a alternative, and I’ve been thinking along those lines also: DIY. He made 2 things, a large scrim and a gold reflector. I’m seriously thinking of following suit and making a micro mini in silver!

So much for the photos

By Seanmcfoto. Posted in News | No Comments »

The rest of this month has just been off the wall busy!

  • I’m taking a film making course on Tuesdays.
  • It was my son’s 4th birthday this week.
  • I was down to Listowel shooting models last weekend,
  • I had a presentation with the camera club which took loads of my time to prepare.
  • I’ve just finished a tech edit on another book for Adobe Press, I can’t give details yet.
  • I’ve just got an email from my own editor, telling me that layouts for my own book (which is about Lightroom) are on the way to me! Yah! Of course, I’ll still need to edit text and possibly change images, but at least it feels like it’s shaping up.
  • Anyhow here’s a shot from Spiddle from a few days ago.

    Competition

By Seanmcfoto. Posted in Uncategorized | No Comments »

Galway Camera Club serves all from beginner to pro. Being chairman last year meant that I didn’t get to enter competitions, so it was good to be able to think about images from that point of view. The club has 4 sections: Digital projection, Slide, Colour Print and Mono Print. As per every one in the world, I thought my images were better than the winners, but I still got 2nd in the Colour Print, 3rd in Mono Print and 2nd in Digital. I didn’t enter slide this time, but I may in future competitions.
